Thermal Paste

Definition: greasy substance that is usually put between a heatsink and a processor or chip on the motherboard.

sometimes the surface of the heatsink is very slightly uneven and will have gaps when in contact with the processor. thermal paste makes sure that those gaps are filled and that the heatsink is doing the best possible job in removing heat.

this substance is usually already applied to cpu fan/heatsink combos but when removing the fan/heatsink after it has been on the CPU for a few months can be problematic. Sometimes letting the computer run for a few minutes will heat up the paste enough that it will aid in removing the fan/heatsink combo.
Usage: crap, the stupid thermal paste has made it impossible for me to remove the cpu cooler without ripping the cpu out of the motherboard
