Megabyte Definition: Technically 1,048,576 bytes of storage, whether in short term memory such as RAM, or long term storage such as a hard drive. The number is derived from powers of 2 and represents 2^20. Many manufacturers started referring to MB as 1,000,000 (10^6) bytes which has led to confusion as well as lawsuits. Usage: My graphics card has 512 MB (megabytes) of memory. Posted by steveho on August 18, 2009 at 05:55:43 Pacific |
