 Instant Message Definition: Instant Message or "IM" Term used to describe the activity of messaging in an online medium to chat with others. These messages involve sending messages composed of text "instantly" to others using messenger applications. These days, you will often find video, audio, and animated graphics/emoticons included in the messages. There are many popular messenger applications around, including AIM and MSN, and many others.
