HSF Definition: Short for Heatsink and Fan. A cooling device which makes use of a chunk of metal and a spinning fan. Common Heatsink materials are copper and aluminum, while the fans tend to be ball-bearing or sleeve-bearing. Functionally, the heat from the component to be cooled is transferred to the base of the Heatsink, then dissipates through any fins. The fan typically blows cooler air downward onto the Heatsink to help dissipate the heat. Usage: My HSF is so big that I can't fit the side of the case on, but my CPU only hits 24C even while running Prime on all 4 cores. Posted by pendragn32 on April 28, 2009 at 13:17:07 Pacific |
