helpdesk Definition: IT Hell. This is a place that users call with a problem (usually simple) and the "trained" (we hope so anyways) IT person on the phone will go through the mind numbing process of walking the caller through fixing the problem (including PEBKAC's and ID: 10T errors). These calls usually come from people that have called enough times for both parties to be on a first name bases. On occasion the poor tecks will get a call that is of an interesting problem (that is an actual problem that most intelligent people can not fix without technical knowledge), that actually requires real problem solving and is the highlight of there day/week/month/year. Usage: If you have a problem then call the helpdesk, they'll walk you through the solution. Posted by goldragon70 on May 19, 2009 at 09:27:16 Pacific |
helpdesk Definition: Aka "Helldesk", where good I.T techs go to die. An IT purgatory spent sat in a call center listening to people tell you how the coffee holder snapped off their PC (mug in the dvdrom tray), the foot pedal doesn't work (stomping on the mouse), and their "computer" won't turn on (powering the monitor on and off doesn't do much). Brief respite is taken by the techs through the usage of obscure terms, technical jargon, and forcing customers to reinstall windows needlessly destroying the Phd thesis they have been working on for the past 5 years. Usage: I've got a shift on the Helldesk tonight, pity me. Posted by Dehiscence on May 21, 2009 at 04:30:13 Pacific |
