Definition: n. A project started in the early 1980s with the purpose of developing a free and open source Unix-like operating system. As the kernel was never finished, their software is commonly used in conjunction with Linus Torvalds' Linux kernel, creating a usable operating system.
Usage: Those GNU guys sure came up with one heck of a C++ compiler.
