Gigabyte Definition: 10^9 eight-bit bytes. This is not to be confused with Gibibytes which is 2^30 eight-bit bytes. Unfortunately the Hard Drive manufacturers corrupted the term and a new scientific word had to be created. Popular jargon has not caught up with the very significant difference between the two terms. Usage: A 64GB (gigbyte) hard drive has less space than a 64 GiB(gibibyte) hard drive. Posted by kingdurin on July 6, 2009 at 14:17:43 Pacific |
