FPS Definition: Acronym for First Person Shooter. The player views a game from the eyes of the character in the game. The weapon is usually located in the bottom right corner of the screen while the rest of the screen has a HUD, Heads Up Display, which shows things such as health, armor, ammo, or mana in some cases. FPS Definition: Acronym for Frames per Second. A measure of the count of individual images, per second, that are displayed on a screen. higher FPS equals smoother motion. Also frequently used as a gauge for performance variances among games and hardware. As a side-note most SD television broadcasts are at 25-30 FPS and the human eye operates at approximately 60 FPS Usage: Dude, I need a new video card; I'm only getting twenty-five FPS.
