 Dork Definition: n. A person of indeterminate intelligence that often gravitates toward technological or fictional material with considerable interest, but often little understanding or comprehension. Often used as a term of endearment towards geeks and nerds by those that love them when poking harmless fun at their...occasional "eccentricities" (cosplay, conventions, tabletop gaming, etc), it is also used by geeks and nerds to describe the socially or technically inept. In these cases, the individuals most often lack the intelligence or presence of mind to learn properly how to do (or not do) various things. While nerds and geeks sometimes struggle in social situations, dorks are often totally devoid of social graces, know a lot less about the subjects in which they claim expertise, and tend to break things they don't understand while trying, unsuccessfully, to figure them out. The word originated as meaning "penis", which doesn't make direct sense unless one would make the loose association that many dorks, as defined here, come across as total dicks. eg: If someone borrows a camera or somesuch, breaks it, and then gives it back, blaming the owner or the device because "it's defective", offering no desire or intent to help replace it...basically, the term fits. Usage: In the unofficial "hierarchy", it breaks down as follows: geeks design and make cool things, nerds understand and collect them, dorks are confused by and break them. (Note: Several t-shirt companies have used this "hierarchy" for their products, but I have yet to find the original source. I DO NOT claim it as my own!!!! Dork Definition: A socially awkward person who tends to shun social norms and creates their own version of reality that they choose to inhabit. While the differences are small between their world and ours, they tend to come out glaringly in public or when around large numbers of the opposite sex. If you are involved in any of the following you are a dork: MMORPG's, Star Trek, Star Wars, Table Top RPG's, The Green Movement, Twitter, Glee Club, Ham Radio or Comic Book Collecting. There is no cure for this illness, instead the infected choose to congregate in large masses known as conventions where they can act out the full extent of their warped visions. Usage: I can't believe the dorks in our hotel this morning dressed up in tights, someone should tell them Batman and Superman did not weigh 400 Lbs.
