 cracking Definition: Usually refers to breaking the security of software (software cracking) to illegally obtain serial numbers which are like combinations. Also can be used when referring to someone trying to determine a users password (password cracking). The word is derived from safe cracking in which a locksmith cracks into a safe by determining the correct combination. Usage: I got my serial number for Adobe Photoshop by cracking the software.
