Cable Definition: When referring to computer-related objects, a cable is most commonly referred to as a length of one or more insulated wires, usually within a secondary insulation and sometimes surrounded by an EMI-cancelling shield to prevent erroneous data from being transmitted/received. A plug/connector, usually of female type (sometimes male, or even alternate types for use as extension leads) is present on each end of the wire(s) which provide a simple, durable and reliable physical and electrical connection between the two ports/sockets the cable is joining. A cable can also be permenantly attached to an object, as such was common in old monitor display cables, and some printer data cables. Usage: I need to plug this ethernet cable from my computer to the router to connect to the internet. Posted by Nimphious on August 2, 2009 at 23:47:03 Pacific |
